Define a real image.
A real image is where the light comes together to form an image on a 'screen'.
1 of 19
Define a virtual image.
A virtual image is when the rays are diverging (going in a different direction), therefore the light from the object appears to be coming from a completely different place.
2 of 19
What type of lens do you need if you're short-sighted?
Concave
3 of 19
When you look in a mirror are you seeing a real or virtual image.
Virtual image.
4 of 19
When looking through a magnifying lens is the image real or virtual?
Real image.
5 of 19
All lenses do what?
All lenses change the direction of light rays by refraction.
6 of 19
What type of lens do you need if you're long-sighted?
Convex
7 of 19
An incident ray parallel to the axis will pass through the focal point when it's...what?
Reflected.
8 of 19
What do convex lenses do?
Convex lenses is a converging lens - it bulges outwards. It causes parallel rays of light to converge (move together) to a focus.
9 of 19
Define axis
The axis of a lens is a line passing through the middle of the lens.
10 of 19
Define focal point
The focal point is where rays hitting the lens parallel to the axis all meet.
11 of 19
Define focal length
Focal length is the distance from the lens to its focal point.
12 of 19
A refracting telescope uses how many converging lenses?
Two.

An incident ray passing through the focal point will be parallel to the axis when it's...what?
Reflected.
14 of 19
Where are converging lenses used?
In optical telescopes.

A refracting telescope is made up of what?
An objective lens and an eyepiece lens.
16 of 19
Name another way of describing a retina.
The 'screen'

Describe concave mirrors.
Concave mirrors are shiny on the inside of the curve.

A reflecting telescope uses...
Concave mirrors and a converging lens.
