Children lost out on education-4000 affected, 100,000 people caught water-borne diseases, many farmers and workers became unemployed, rice yields decreased and so the price rose by 10%

What were the immediate responses to the flood?
International charities and the government sent out aid to provide clean water, food and shelter. As well as boats to rescue stranded. Many people didn't evacuate as they ha no where to go. Those who did, were slowed down by blocked transport links.

What were the long-term responses to the flood?
International charities help to rebuild schools, homes and factories. They rebuilt houses on stilts to reduce the impact of flooding in the future.
