a dummy copy of the bill is first reviewed and allocated numbers and put in to a series of square brackets i.e [ Bill 4]

Second Reading
The house of commons looks at the principle of the bill

Vote
the second stage vote is the only stage where a bill can be defeated

Committee Stage
the bill is basically picked apart and each part is agreed or disagreed on by members of the house of Commons

whether it should go to the next stage or not

Report Stage
the final chance to make any amendments. if no amendments are made then it goes straight to the third reading.Also at this stage non committee members get to look at the bill

House Of Lords
The House Of Lords repeat the whole process. they may make ammendments but the HOC have to agree. they can delay a bill but cant stop it going through as the HoC can force it through to royal assent. Parliament act 1911 and 1949. ping pong max 3 x
