What is a result crime?
A result crime is when someone has only committed a crime by the ending. E.G: throwing a stone is not a crime, but if it hits a window it would be a result crime.

What is causation in law?
Was it the defendants fault? - a moral judgement

What are the rules on causation?
The thin skull rule, intervening acts, actions causing death, contributory negligence, attempts to escape.

What is the thin skull rule?
It means to take the victim as you find them, for example; in R V Haywood, he was in an argument with his wife and shouted her which killed her as she had a thyroid condition which can kill someone if they are frightened. He was still convicted.

What is an intervening act?
An intervening act is when someone breaks the chain of causation, meaning that the D will no longer be responsible for the crime

What is 'actions causing death'?
When the defendants actions lead to the death of the person

What is a case example of actions causing death?
An example of actions causing death is in R v White when the defendant put poison in his mothers drink to kill her, although before the poison took effect she died from a heart attack. He was found guilty of attempted murder.

What is contributory negligence?
If the victim refuses to seek medical treatment, it is still the defendants fault and is liable

What is an attempt to escape?
When the victim tries to escape, the attacker is still liable

It links the defendants actions to the end result
