What is the first element of robbery?
A completed theft.

The force used to appropriate the property meant the defendants were convicted of robbery.

What is the second element of robbery?
Use of force or seeks to put any person in fear of being then and there subjected to force (threat of force).

What was held in the case of RP and Others v DPP?
The definition of force was accepted as ‘any exercise of physical strength against another’. There was no force in this case as there had been no direct contact between the defendant and the victim.

Force is an ordinary word for the jury to decide, a nudge on the shoulder was enough to satisfy force in this case and only a minimal amount of force needs to be proved.
