What are the bones involved with breathing
Vertebrae
1 of 10
Describe the vertebrae
Made up of 12 pairs. 7 curve round and connect at the breast bone. 3 pairs are attached to the 7th. 2 are 'floating. Together they form the chest cavity.
2 of 10
What are the muscles involved with breathing
Intercoastal muscles, Diaphragm and Abdominal muscles
3 of 10
Describe the intercoastal muscles
They are imbetween the ribs and can move them appropriatly
4 of 10
Describe the Diaphragm
A dome-shaped structure dividing the the chest and abdomen. It's attached to the lower edges of the rib cage, the point of the sternum and at the back of the vertebrae.
5 of 10
Describe the Abdominal muscles
Forms part of the abdominal cavity and help to control the movement of the diaphragm
6 of 10
Explain what happens when we breathe in
The intercoastal muscles contract and move the ribs up and out. The diaphragm moves in respond and gets streched out by the ribs. As the lungs expand the pressure decreases and air flows in to cover it up.
7 of 10
Explain what happens when we breathe out
The muscles converge to support the release. The abdominal muscles contract, the diaphragm rises and the ribcage returns to its origonal position. The lungsare compressed and the air flows outwards powered by the abdominal muscles.
8 of 10
How do we support our breath
You must have the right amount of pressure from the abdominal muscles. This can be done by breathing excersises. When placing hands on your lower abdomen it gives it support. Taking breath from below your naval will also relax and ease your voice.
9 of 10
Explain what cavicular breathing is
Must be avoided. Involves moving the ribs up but not out. This holds air in the upper lungs and raising the sholders. This can happen when you are very tense, putting strain on the vocal chords.
