Where is Cambridge located?
It lies in East Anglia, on the River Cam, about 50 miles north of London

Why is Grantchester meadows situated either side of the upper River Cam-what about houses?
Land at the upper River Cam is liable to flood and so it is left as a natural ecosystem/wetland area. Houses here would be in danger of flooding and so as a result are not built here. The floodplains also protect the city during flood events.

Why is the Railway Station situated out of the city centre?
This is because Uni. as a whole has been able to control developments, they wanted the train station to be far away from the city centre to limit its attraction to students to travel to London

Why is the airport located south-east of the city?
This is because of RELIEF, here the land is much flatter so it is suitable for an airport

Where is the majority of high-class housing located?
The western part of the city has been the largest and most expensive housing-it is AWAY from industry and the railway

Why is there a lot of terraced houses located near the station?
This was where the workers was housed as it was close to the industry and the railway

Why has huge developments been built in central Cambridge (such as The Grande Arcade)?
This is to take advantage of the concentration of people (especially tourists) in this area-high footfall means successful shops

Why is there increasing out of town shops/ services near to Cambridge?
This is to use low land values and serve customers with C
