Moscow Accords 1945
Agreement signed by the US and USSR to reunify Korea, agreed to seperate at the 38th parallel

prime minister of NK 1948, initiated the war by sending troops into the south, asked for chinese support, desperate to unify Korea

Syngman Rhee
anti-communist, agressive and controlling, he was popular in SK, he had similiar views to the US and there was no replacement for him, he focused too much on killing political opponents rather than the war

set up 5 years before the war, wanted to stop violence and reunify Korea, told NK to stop at 38th parallel but they didnt, so they sent in UN troops to restore order

US troops near the border, USA sent a patrol in between China and Taiwan which annoyed them, Kim asked for help, Stalin pressured them to help

4 million dead, not unified, 8700 Industrial plants destroyed, 10% population dead wounded or missing, 600 000 homes destroyed

150 000 dead, 48% economy spent on the war, tension with Taiwan, excluded from the UN

33 000 dead, 103 000 wounded, got Eisenhower into office, military forces increased

Japan got economic boost - Toyota, $3 billion products worth ordered from Japan

Outspoken critic of Truman, leaked info to the press, wanted to poison the Yalu river, wanted to bomb China, wanted to use nuclear weapsons and Taiwan forces

US officials made secret contact with USSR/China, discussions for an armistice began in June, stopped NK from asking UN troops to leave, Stalin died in 1953
