What was the role of a knight
Tenants-in-chief granted land to the knights. In return, they fought on horseback in the King's army

How long did they have to serve in the King's army?
The knights had to serve in the King's army for at least two months and had to pay for their own horse etc. If they had to serve in the army for longer, the King would have to pay them

What else did the knight have to do?
They had to perform up to 40 days service in guarding the lords castle and in training. They also had to raise money to pay ransom of his lord if he was captured in battle or inprisoned

How was a knight knighted?
In the knighthood ceremony, the knights were presented with a sword and belt and struck gently on the back of the neck with the sword, this is known as dubbing

What happens after the knight is knighted?
They would lay their sword on the altar and promise services to his overlord and to god. In return, they would receive land which they would rent out to the people below them, to support themselves and their family
