It is a computer network that connects computers worldwide.

It is a protocol used for sending files between computers and over the internet.

Uniform Resource Locator. It is a unique web address which every webpage has.

Search Engine
A search engine is a database on the WWW that helps us quickly find the pages in which we want.

Distrubuted Computing
Where a series of computers are networked together and each work on solving the same problem.

Bandwidth
Bandwidth is the measure of capacity of a communications channel. It measures the amount of data which can be uploaded or downloaded in a specific measure of time.

Dial Up Modem
It is a way of connecting to the internet using analogue modem. It's connection is very slow - 56kbs.

Broadband
This term is applied to networks which can carry multiple channels of data. More data can be carried at the same time.

Censorship is when certain facts are changed or removed on purpose, often businesses do no publish material which could show another businesses idea or their employees in a bad light.

A extremely fast and powerful computer, it is often made up of dozens of cabinets. It uses alot of power and is used to make calculations.

Web Crawler
It is a meta search engine that blends the top search results from leading search engines.

Boolean Search
A boolean search combines key words together using logic statements to link them e.g. AND, OR, NOT
