Key terms that are particularly useful for part B of the exam when comparing two texts.

Words and phrases used to guide a listener. "First", "Now", "On the other hand" etc.
Discourse Markers

The omission or slurring of sounds/syllables e.g. "Gonna", "Wannabe", "Wassup" etc.
Elision

The omission of part of a grammatical structure e.g. "You going to the party?"
Ellipsis

Words, phrases & non-verbal utterances used to give feedback to speaker to show the listener is paying attention.
Back-Channel Features

Words added to the end of a declarative (usually) to turn it into a question, often to hedge.
Tag question

Words and phrases which soften/weaken the force with which something is said. E.g. 'perhaps', 'maybe', 'I think'
Hedge

A reduced form often marked by an apostrophe in writing. E.g. can't, she'll, don't. etc.
Contraction

The meaning behind the words - subtext.
Pragmatics

Talk associated with and about one's feelings.
Expressive Talk

A second speaker begins as soon as the first has finished - no pause between utterances.
Latching

Have no conventional meaning, but are inserted into spoken discourse to create pauses - give thinking time. E.g. "um", "ah", etc.
