What is mass spectrometry?
A technique used to find the atomic mass of elememts and compounds.
1 of 12
What are some features of the absorption spectra?
Black lines on a multicoloured background. These black lines are the missing frequencies of light that have been absorbed by particles.
2 of 12
What are some features of the emission spectra?
Coloured lines on a black background. The coloured lines corrospond the emitted photon.
3 of 12
What is the continuous and atomic spectra?
Continuous spectra is when wavelength os light passes uninterrupted, like a rainbow. Atomic spectra is the specific frequencies of light absorbed or emitted.
4 of 12
What is the Balmer series?
The hydrogen emission spectrum in visible light.
5 of 12
What is the Lyman series?
The hydrogen emission spectrum in unltraviolet light.
6 of 12
What is spectroscopy?
The study of the interaction of light and matter.
7 of 12
What theory describes the behaviour of light?
Wave- particle duality
8 of 12
What are the features of light?
Wavelength and frequency. As wavelength increases, frequency decreases.
9 of 12
State the equation used to calculate the speed of light.
Speed of light = wavelength x frequency
10 of 12
What is the particle theory of light?
This is the idea that like behaves like a particle meaning it regards it as packets of energy called photons.
11 of 12
What is the equation linking the wave and photon models of light?
Energy of photon = plancks constant x frequency
