AGAPE
A form of love demonstrated by Jesus' sacrifice. Teaches people to suffer willingly for others without expecting anything in return

IMMANENT
Present with people. Links to the idea of a personal God who communicates through visions, prayer and the Holy Spirit

BENEVOLENT
A loving God. He is just and fair, and loves all of His creation. Forgiving (offered humanity salvation)

Outside of time. God created time therefore He cannot be controlled by it, so must be outside of it

LITERALIST / FUNDAMENTALIST
A Christian that takes the account of Genesis and creation as literal (true) because it is God's word therefore it must be infallible

Without error.

LIBERALIST
A Christian who believes that while God did create the world, Genesis is simply an interpretation. These people accept scientific theory and say that God planned evolution etc

ORIGINAL SIN
Sin that first entered the world through Adam and Eve's disobedience. This led to the Fall and all humans were born with Original Sin

THE FALL
The end of the perfect relationship with God. Some Christians even now may say that each person must seek to re-establish this relationship

EVIL / SUFFERING
Evil is everything that is the opposite of good. It is wicked and causes suffering. There are two types.

NATURAL EVIL
Suffering caused by natural events such as earthquakes or floods (disasters). Some Christians believe that this exists so that humans can show themselves as kind by helping

MORAL EVIL
Suffering as a result of human actions and the sinful nature of humans. Examples include war, famine, and disease

MESSIAH
'Anointed one' - the name given to Jesus which describes him as a king (chosen by God) and leader Guidance

SACRIFICIAL LOVE
A love that puts God and others above yourself. The term in the New Testament to describe this is 'Agape love'

SALVATION
Being saved from eternity in hell (without God's presence) through repentance (eg prayer) and Jesus' ultimate sacrifice

REPENTANCE
Saying sorry for sin. Showing that you know that you have done wrong. Christians may prayer/worship to God in order to show that they are sorry and beg forgiveness

ATONEMENT
Something which is done to pay for a wrong action (sin). Links to repentance.

GRACE
God's unconditional love and blessing. He even shows this to people who do not deserve it (sinners, non-believers) this shows his benevolence

PURGATORY
Catholic belief of a place of purification for the elect. In purgatory, a person will spend an amount of time to be cleansed and achieve the holiness for obtaining a space in heaven

HELL
Either a physical place of flames (eternal suffering/punishment) or a state of mind without God's presence. Some believe it involves annihilation which is being completely destroyed so they no longer exist

HEAVEN
Eternal life after death in the presence and glory of God. Those who received salvation on earth can obtain a place here. Some believe it is a state of mind but others think that it is place.

LITURGICAL WORSHIP
A form of worship which involves the congregation responding to the leader(s) of the service with set words. This familiarity can help people reflect on the meaning of the words

SACRAMENT
A ritual with inner spiritual meaning through which a person can achieve/obtain God's grace and blessing

EUCHARIST
The sacrament created by Jesus. Congregations share bread and wine in memory of Jesus' sacrifice. Holy communion.

TRANSUBSTANTIATION
The Catholic belief that the bread and wine of the Eucharist transform into literally the body and blood of Christ. Jesus therefore has a physical presence at Holy Communion

CONSUBSTANTIATION
Anglican belief that the bread and wine at the Eucharist are symbolic of Jesus' body and blood. He therefore has a spiritual presence at the service

GLOSSOLALIA
Speaking in tongues. Link to charismatic worship, where they act as led to by the Holy Spirit.

SUPPLICATION
Asking God for help in prayer. This may be for the person themselves or during intercessionary prayer for other people
