Right to vote -> for women over the age of 30

Sex Discrimination Act -> illegal to deny work, education or training due to a person's gender. Also illegal to sack a women if she is pregnant.

Late 19th century to early 20th
First wave of feminism - suffragette movement, founded by Emmeline Pankhurst. Focused on the promotion of voting and property rights for women + opposition to chattel marriage.

1960s - 1980s
Second Wave of feminsim -> expanded on the legal rights of women to inlcude reproductive rights and domestic violence. 'The personal is political!'
8 of 10
1990s - present
Third Wave of feminism: sought to deconstruct fixed concepts of sexuality and gender, sought empowerment for women. Women aren't vitctims.
9 of 10
2010s - ?
Fourth wave? : thought to be a new wave created because of social media - combatting sexual harassament and assualt and also misogyny.
