what are pathogens?
Pathogens are organisms that cause disease. They include microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, fungi and protozoa

what do protozoa cause?
Protozoa are single-celled organisms. Food contaminated with protozoa can cause infections. Some protozoa are parasites. These organisms live on, or inside, another organism. Malaria is a disease caused by protozoa that live in the blood.

Name some body defences
skin, blood clotting, mucous membranes and stomach acid

what happens to a micro-organisms that enters the body?
white blood cells either engulf it and digest it (non specific white blood cells) or specific white blood cells can recognise particular antigens and produce antibodies that will either attach themselves to and kill, bind to and neutralise or mark.

what is an antibody?
proteins that are specific to a particular antigen, different micro-organisms have different antigens, therefore different antibodies are needed to recognise different microorganisms.
