What are spring washers and where are they made from?
Spring washers are made from high carbon steel and are placed onto a bolt underneath a nut. They then grip to the nut to prevent it from loosening.

What are Nylock Nuts?
Nylock nuts have anylon (hard plastic) plastic insert. When the bolt is tightened it forms its own thread in the Nylon which grips the bolt preventing it from loosening.

What is Countersinking?
By cutting a countersink into a fixing hole and using a countersunk screw you can chieve a flush fixing.

What is Pop Riveting used for?
Pop Riveting is used to join thin peices of sheet metal (can also be wood or acrylic) even when ypou can only access one side.

What is the pop riveting process?
1. Drill clearance wholes through both peices of metal 2. Push rivet through ensuring that at least the metal thickness protudes 3. Gun pulls rivet through pulling sheets together.

What does thread cutting use?
Thread Cutting uses taps and dies to cut threads in non ferrous metals and mild steel.

What is the Thread Cutting Process?
1. A suitable sized hole is drilled 2. The tap is started, making sure it is held at exactly 90 degrees to the work

When is a die/die holder used and when is a tap/tap holder used?
A tap/tap holder is used for internal threads and die/die holders are used for eternal threads.
