What is the Sermon on the mount?
Begins with the qualities or virtues a christian requires to lead the good life and then discusses a range of moral and religious issues, from the use of force to the practice of prayer and worship.

What were Jesus' views on forgiveness and repentance?
Metanoia (repentance). Jesus called for repentance. Parable of the lost son- how hard it is to forgive, but we should always forgive. Forgiveness is central to Jesus' teachings and teachings of Jesus.

What were Jesus' views on personal responsibility?
Keep the sabbath holy. But don't avoid social responsibility. Morality requires personal responsibility. Religous practices are there to serve human needs. Being holy is not achieved by carrying out external rituals, but by purity of mind.

Is Jesus just a teacher of wisdom?
Allows for other teachers of wisdom. (Prophet etc). Those who find his divinity hard to accept also say he is a teacher of wisdom.

Jesus as the liberator of the poor
S.G.F Brandon- Jesus was a freedom fighter. (Latin America). Preferential option for the poor. (Acceptance into heaven).

Liberator of the marginalised
Parables looked at the 'sinners' of society. Use of the marginalised in parables rather than the religiously right. The Good samaritan (helped man, Jews didn't)- example of moral behaviour.

Is Jesus just a liberator?
Jesus never advocated political revolution through violent struggle. When he was arrested, he scolded one of his disciples for drawing his sword. Jesus resisted being called messiah etc. The authorities didn't consider Jesus to be a revolutionary.

Term others used to describe his relationship with God.

What is Christology?
The area of Christian theology concerned with the nature of Jesus' relationship with God.

What is Christology from above?
Focuses on Jesus' divinity and God's act of bringing humanity back into a relationship with him. High Christology is not something that can be proved, it relies on faith.

What is Christology from below?
Focuses on Jesus' message, example and teaching. Salvation focuses onhow people respond t Jesus the way this helps to develop their relationship to God and the world.

Jesus' knowledge of God
Jesus expresses that his unique relationship with God is the nly means to salvation because, as he says 'The father and I are one'. - conscious of God's will. 'Father is greater than I'.

Jesus and his miracles
Jesus' frequently performed miracles unlike Moses. Confirmation of his divinity and status as the son of God.

Birth and incarnation
Jesus' birth a miracle. Nestorius- two natures of Christ, the divine and human (seperate). Apollinarius- in the incarnation the divine will replaced human reason. Nestorius- psychological not scientific- lower christology

Miracles as signs of salvation
High and low christology- miracles are signs of salvation, what would be like to live in restored world. Healing of a man born blind.

Resurrection
Allowed for a confirmation of divinity. Were not immediate after death many experiences long after.

Confirmation of divinity
St Paul- Jesus' resurrection was the first fruits of the harvest- God brings everything to completion. Resurrection confirmed divinity- Wolfhart Pannenberg.

Authority to worship and proclaim
Confirmed Jesus could be worshipped as God without committing blasphemy. Resurrection- event which gives them authority to proclaim the truth that Christ is the son of God

What is the Christ event?
Refers to Jesus' birth, ministry, death and resurrection. It is used by scholars to suggest that the significance of Christ lies in no one particular historical moment but the whole of his life and its relationship with history before and after.
