Ambiguous tonality- Em but opens with Fm7 and Gm7. Dorian mode on E. Chromatic harmony- dissonance. Parallel and power chords. Drone strings. Bottom string tuned to a D.

Drum kit -especially tom toms- emphasises pulse. Cymbals emphasise 'splashing' sounds at random moments. Guitars emphasise compound metre. Cross-rhythms- bass ticking of 'time' pre-chorus. Ends in chaos- rhythms less clear, more disturbed.

Homophonic throughout. Thicker texture as harmonies are added in middle 8 and then in outro.

12/8 time creating a lilting feel. Cross-rhythms in pre-chorus rocks the lilting feel giving sense of trouble/worry- feels more like 4/4 at this point.

Sliding, grace notes, vocalisations (middle 8), EQ (equalisation) effect- end of middle 8 (electronic manipulation of voice). Falsetto- 8ve higher. Improvisation- anguish vocalised more throughout song.
