Structural Isomers
Compounds with the same molecular formula but different structural formula.
1 of 10
Stereoisomers
Compounds with the same structural formula but with different arrangements of atoms in space.
2 of 10
E/Z Isomerism
A type of isomerism in which different groups attached to each C of C C may be arranged differently in space because of the restricted rotation of the C C.
3 of 10
Cis-trans isomerism
Special type of E/Z isomerism n which there is a H atom and non H-atom/group on each C atom.
4 of 10
Cis
When both H atoms are above or both are below the C C.
5 of 10
Trans
When one H atom is above the C C and the other is below.
6 of 10
Homolytic Fission
When a covalent bond breaks and each atom in the bonds get 1 electron each. 2 radicals are formed.
7 of 10
Heterolytic Fission
When a covalent bond breaks and one atom in the bond get both electrons. A positive and negative ion are formed.
8 of 10
Isomerisation
When straight chains are converted into branched chains.
9 of 10
Reforming
When cyclic or aromatic hydrocarbons are formed.
