Equality
The quality of being the same in quantity, measure, value or status. Being equally balanced, regardless of somebody’s appearance or what social group they belong to.

Justice
A concept of moral rightness based on ethnics, rationality, law, natural law religion, or equity. It is the quality of being just or fair.

Prejudice
Is an attitude, meaning to judge someone before knowing them. We often judge something or someone based on assumptions.

Discrimination
Goes a step further and is when prejudiced thoughts influence actions. It involves unjust treatment resulting from prejudice.

Stereotyping
Is a set way of viewing certain people based on their race, religion, age etc.

Agape
Christian love for all people – as they are all God’s creations.

Authority
Despite the existence of the equality act and the declaration thousands of people suffer from prejudice and discrimination for any number of reasons and can take place whenever someone with power exercises that power over those without it.

What is article 1 of the universal declaration of human rights regarding equality?
All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason + conscience & should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood. There are 30 human rights in the declaration

What is article 2 of the universal declaration of human rights regarding equality?
Everyone is entitles to all the right and freedoms set forth in this declaration without distinction of any kind such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.

What is the equality act?
The act came into force 1st Oct 2010 compiling over 116 pieces of legislation into a single act. It attempts to protect the rights of individuals and advance equality of opportunity for all.

Give examples of characteristics protected by the Equality Act?
Age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage+civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion/belief, sex, sexual orientation.

What does Christianity teach about equality?
Bible teaches that God created all human beings as equal regardless of race or gender, Imago-dei (genesis 1:26-27), Jesus- Golden rule. people should be treated as they would like to be treated yourself, Parable of the good Samaritan + Gal 3:28

What does Judaism teach about equality?
Book of Leveticus 'when a stranger stays with you in your land, you shall do him no wrong'Giving to charity is a MITZVAH and when you give to charity, you are helping to make people feel like they mean something and are equal to everyone else.

Giving to charity is important i.e. Cafod and Christian aid. The bible teaches the importance of sharing e.g John the Baptist taught that those with two coats must share one. Many christains give a tithe (10%) of their income to charities

What does Judaism say about wealth?
Giving to those in need is a duty, it's a MITZVAH to care and support others. Financial support to the poor is a called Tzaedaka. In many Jewish homes there are money boxes called 'Pushkes' used to collect the money that will be given to charity

Which religious groups/denominations allow women priests/rabbis?
Church of England and the Methodist church allow women to become priests/rabbis whilst the Roman Catholic Church does not. In Judaism, orthodox jews do not whilst progressive jews do.

What is the Christian approach to sexism?
Christians believe that women are second to men, that men should lead and women should follow (see 1 Timothy 2:8–15) but Jesus never made any distinction between his male + female followers. Galatians 3:28

The Jewish Council for Racial Equality (J-Core) works with the Jewish and wider communities to promote a positive multi-ethnic UK free from all forms of racism. They work with a variety of organisations i.e. anti-racist organisations
