R v Franklin (1883)
The defendant threw a large box into the sea from the West Pier in Brighton.The box hit and killed a swimmer. It was held that that this was a civil wrong. Therefore, it was not enough to create. liability for unlawful act manslaughter.

R v Lowe (1973)
The defendant was convicted of wilfully neglecting his baby son. The child later died. The trial judge had directed the jury that, if they found the defendant guilty of wilful neglect, he could also be guilty of manslaughter. The appeal court stated that
