Why was Germany a pain?
Because they were costing eveyone a lot of money.

What did the USA, France and Britain decide to do?
They merged their zones together, first creating a Bizonia then later on a Ttizonia. They would use Marshall aid to help germany. Created the Deutchmark.

Yes, Germany are now back on their feet.

Stalin feels threatened, what does he do in response to this?
he blocks all of the transport going into and out of Berlin.

What does he hope to achieve by this?
To get rid of capitalism, make Berlin dependant on the USSR, show them who is boss, for security and to make everyone 'red'.

What choices did the USA, Britain and France have?
Back down and let the USSr have Berlin, but this would look weak. Use tanks to ram the road blocks, but this would look war-like and go against the Truman doctrine. Or get into Berlin by plane, but there is a risk of getting bombed.

They decided to use planes because if Stalin bombed them, it would look war-like and basically start WW3.

He knew he couldn't win so he took down the blockades overnight.

It is short for the Communist Information Bureau.

When was COMINFORM set up? Why was it set up?
It was set in 1947 by Stalin, it was set up so that USSR could control the countries in Eastern Europe, 'to coordinate'.

It is the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance.

It was set up in 1947 by Stalin, it was set up so that all the communist countries could just trade with eachother, not with anyone else (the West).

It divides into West German and East Germany, the West was Capitalist and the East was Communist.

NATO= the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation.

NATO was set up in April 1949

What was the main principal of NATO? Why did countries sign up to join NATO?
It would bac-up the other members of NATO. Countries joined because if anything happen to them they had instant back-up from all of the other NATO members.

What is the WARSAW PACT?
The WARSAW PACT is the communist equivalent to NATO, it was an attempt to protect the USSR by drawing the countries of the east together.
