What are the main assumptions of realism?
States are main actors, exist in an anarchic world, are reasonable rational actors (with exceptions), security is central problem of IR, search for security is competitive

States have pursued balance of power, states are always aware of possible security dilemma, respond to threats by making alliances, care about relative gains over absolute gains, power transition moments are dangerous

There is an ongoing process of modernisation, individuals and groups are main actors, modernisations tend towards a common path

Economic interactions have a pacifying effect on relations between states, democracies tend not to fight each other, IR built on international law/institutions, people aren't trapped in national identities/build communities beyond the state

Interests are shaped by identities, moulded by settings and ideas, ideas of elite individuals tend to share groups, interaction and communication is important, elites shape world views and how interests are defined and pursued

The view of the world is intersubjective, states operate in a global civil society, normative change is how politics evolves (usually progressive)

Political interests are defined by person's economic position, socioeconomic actors are most important actors, modern states structured to benefit capitalists, revolution is source of political change

Modern states will keep the world safe for capitalism, transnational business will be a salient feature of world politics, capitalists have become more mobile and workers less so
