What is Interactionism
it is an approach that says society is something made up of continuous micro-interactions.

There is no immediate relation between our thoughts and the things they relate too. He believes there are signs in between

what is cooleys theory?
looks at childhood imagination and how that links to adult hood relationships

what does he say about childhood imagination?
children having imaginary friends means they develop ways of thinking based upon imaginary conversations. in adulthood this is no different, we interact with an imagination of what other people are like

how does Cooleys ideas relate to how we understand society?
he argues if we only relate to each other in our imaginations then society is all in the mind.

when we think of ourselves, we are imaging how other people judge us and then we respond to our imagination of their imagination
