Inter-tropical convergence zone
The ITCZ is a zone of convergence at the thermal equator where the trade winds meet. It is a low pressure belt and migrates with the changing position of the thermal equator.
1 of 5
Hadley cell
The Hadley cell, named after George Hadley, is a global scale tropical atmospheric circulation that features air rising near the equator, flowing poleward at 10–15 kilometers above the surface, descending in the subtropics, and then returning equator
2 of 5
Ferrell Cell
The Ferrell Cell is the motion of air in the mid-latitudes. It is characterized by sinking air near 30 deg and rising air farther poleward. At the surface, air flowing poleward is deflected to the east by the coriolis force.
3 of 5
Polar Cell
The global circulation can be described as the world-wide system of winds by which the necessary transport of heat from tropical to polar latitudes is accomplished.
4 of 5
Equator
a line notionally drawn on the earth equidistant from the poles, dividing the earth into northern and southern hemispheres and constituting the parallel of latitude 0°.
