Information can be used for either marketing or decision making within organisations, but in each case it needs to be precise, correct, truthful.

Credit card statements must have the correct interest rate applied to a customers credit card balance, otherwise customers will complain and the card company can be prosecuted.

Information should be appropriate and concise; if the user has more information than they actually need they are wasting storage space and may also get confused by considering additional irrelevant facts in their decision making.
If a supermarket is planning to build a new store they would be interested in facts in size of population, rival supermarkets and availability of sites to build on. Information on nearby bars/restaurants is irrelevant to their decision making.

To promote a particular event or product, mail shots are used as part of a marketing campaign. It is not likely to yield success if the name of the person at the address is "unknown"; mailing letters to the "occupier" normally end up in the bin!

If information is received in report for, it is important it is understandable to read.

Companies considering entering into eCommerce, may pay a website designer to investigate their options and send a written report based on their findings. An organisation may struggle to make decisions, if the report consists of complicated jargon!
Timely

It is essential that information is presented when it is needed, particularly if important decisions need to be made, the information should be on hand to do so.
If a company is planning to relocate to a new area, they may ask their staff to research current transport links - its crucial that this information is on hand to ensure the correct decision is made.
