1 of 22
what is an ICT system?
A system is a way of doing something, so an ICT system is a way of doing something using ict, where the putput of the system goes straight to a human or another ICT system.
2 of 22
Give 3 examples of ICT Systems?
Payroll system, Stock control system, Banking systems
3 of 22
what do all systems have in common?
all systems involve three steps: input, process and output.
4 of 22
what is an input
this invloves capturing or entering the data. normally via keyboard.
5 of 22
what is proceesing
means performing actions on the input data. e.g calculations, searching, sorting, converting, arranging, presenting, converting, transferring and classifying.
6 of 22
what is an output
theses are the results or the information produced when the data has been processed.
7 of 22
what forms can data be in?
numbers, words, images, sound
8 of 22
what is coding data?
coding data mean putting it into shorter terms
9 of 22
what is encoding data?
encoding data is putting the data/ information into a specified format that allows effective transmission or storage by an ICT system.
10 of 22
what is decoding data
the opposite of encoding data where the coded information is changed back to its original form.
11 of 22
what is binary code?
This is a digital coding system which uses two values to represent data, 0 and 1.
12 of 22
how does binary code work
on a network these binary codes are transmitted along a wire until the character is recived at the other end where it is decoded and converted back to the character again.
13 of 22
what is data?
data is the raw value put into, stored and processed by a data processing system
14 of 22
what is information?
information comes from processing data. information is data that has been: processed, converted, or organized in some way
15 of 22
why is keeping data up to date important?
there is a requriremtent under the data protection act 1998 for anyone who processed personal data to keep that information accurate and up to date.
16 of 22
who are users?
users are people who use the system designed by others
17 of 22
what are the 5 user characteristics
1. experience 2. physical characteristics 3. environment of use 4. task to be undertaken 5. age
18 of 22
what is a common interface
the standard interface for human inputting data is via the keyboard with the computer giving its response on the screen.
19 of 22
define interface
An interface is a method, either hardware or software, which connects different parts of a computer or network so that data communication can take place.
20 of 22
what are technical skills
technical skills are those that are neccessary in order to complete a specific job in ICT.
21 of 22
What are personal skills
are those skills a person possesses and which are transsferable to any job or task.
