Why do employers and employees need each-other?
Employers need hard working staff to produce goods and services, whilst employees need a secure income to support themselves and their families.

One which maximises the cooperation and minimises the potential for conflict between these two groups, also makes it easier for employees to accept difficult decisions.

Why is efficient communication between managers and employees essential?
It is necessary for making plans, objectives, giving instructions, and motivating staff.

What is good communication?
Clear and unambiguous , the message that is sent should be the same as that which is received.

What are the barriers that need to be overcome to improve communication?
Attitudes towards eachother, intermediaries (long chains of communication distort info), language barriers, sense of purpose (why staff are being told), communication overload, remoteness (misinterpretation), group behaviour (some afraid to talk).

How can these barriers be overcome?
Democratic management, making parties recognise others objectives, delayering organisational structure can decrease chain of communication, delegation and decentralisation (empowering employees=sense of purpose, less group behaviour, less remoteness)

Advantages of good employer-employee relations to the employer
Good reputation among prospective employees attracts best candidates, new ways of working can improve productivity and efficiency, a diverse employee view is important to making informed decisions, objectives of employees more aligned with business.

Advantages of good employer-employee relations to the employee.
Employees feel more involved (better job security), higher efficiency means higher profits (employees receive pay increases/bonuses), employees feel more valued (increased job satisfaction), advice can mean development of skills (furthering career).
