How did protestants view festivals?
They saw them as rowdy and attacked promiscuity and sexuality. They saw many practices of the church as pre-Christian survivals comparing the cult of Mary to the cult of Venus. Luther did not object to saint's days and festivals.

Wanted the bible to be available in English. Sermons were essential. Critical of popular culture most of which were seen as pagan survivals.

Who were the nuns of Loudun
Nuns who were supposedly possessed in the 1630s in a French convent. Their possession led to the arrest of Urbain Grandier, a local priest who sympathised with protestants. Under torture he confessed and was executed in 1634.

Puritans are regarded as being more zealous in their pursuit against witchcraft but Cromwell made no mention of witchcraft in any of his letters
