It is a cycle between Soil (Absorbs nutrients from litter), Litter (Decaying layer of vegetation releases nutrients) and Biomass (Nutrients from soil taken up vegetation plants/organisms)

Explain how energy flows within an ecosystem
Input = solar radiation, Transfer = Producers convert energy by photosynthesis and consumers gets energy from producers, Output = Decomposers, such as bacteria, break down dead material

How were Amerindians effected by the deforestation of the Amazon?
Population went from 6 million to 200,000, destruction of their traditional culture and way of life. Those remaining, like the Kayapo, are forced to live on reservations.

How was the environment effected by the deforestation of the Amazon?
2.5 million species live in the Amazon and deforestation threatens most to extinction. Over 40,000 species of plants are found in the Amazon, and 1,300 species birds will lose their habitats due to deforestation.

What caused the desertification of the Sahel?
Inappropriate agriculture: Arable land used for pastoral farming was overgrazed and turned the soil infertile.
