raw facts and figures called DATA. DATA has little meaning until its PROCESSED. once PROCESSED it becomes INFORMATION. INFORMATION is the meaning we attach to DATA

How does a computer process data?
input --> process --> output

a computer has two types of parts. Hardware: anything you can touch e.g machinery. Software: any programmes and data.

Typical computer system
input device --> CPU (central processing unit-backing store) --> output device

Example of typical computer system
input:clicking print icon --> processing: information getting sent to the printer --> output: the paper coming out of the printer.

NOTE:
if we put in the wrong data we get the wrong data out. GIGO= garbage in, garbage out.
