Persistence of vision
when your eyes see an image for a couple of seconds even when its changed

Flip books
these are books with drawings that are slightly different on each page so when you quickly flip through the book it looks like its moving

Stop motion animation
a model (clay figure) is photographed and then moved slightly and photographed again until when you combined the photos at the end and it puts together a smoth motion

flash is a piece of software used to create interactive and animated websites. flash images are very fast. you can create interactive animated images using flash

3D animtion
toy story is a vey good example of 3d animation. It uses very sophisitcated and expensive software, mainly used by film studios. modelling techniques are also needed.

Tweening
tweening is in-betweening. you create the start of a frame and the end of a frame and then the computer generates all the frames in-between

Onion skinning
this is a technique used where several frames are superimposed over each other. this allows the animator the keep track of the motion.
