This is changing the original data into a shortened version in order to store it in the computer
13 of 28
What are the benefits of coding data?
Less storage space required - Quicker - Small number of codes exist making it easier to match them against the rules - codes are easier to remember
14 of 28
What are the problems of coding data?
The data isn't very precise - User needs to remember the codes - people might have more than one judgement
15 of 28
What is the Hardware cost of information?
To collect, analyse and output the data - storage space to hold the data
16 of 28
What is the Software cost of information?
Required to analyse the information and make a report based on the results - Maintenance agreements - software licences

You enter the data in twice and the computer checks the two entries to see if they are the same
26 of 28
What is manual verification?
You enter the data in and check manually from the screen against the source
