What does an ice bath do?
The cold water causes the blood vesseld to tighten and drains the blood from the legs

What happens after leaving the bath?
The legs fill up with fresh blood. The blood that leaves the legs tales away with it lactic acid that has built up during the activity, while the fresh blood invigorates the muscles with oxygen to help the cells function better.
