What do hydrographs do?
They record how much water passes through a river at a particular point in its course (discharge).

What do storm hydrographs do?
They show the change in discharge caused by a period of rainfall.

How is rainfall shown on a hydrograph?
It is shown as a bar graph (in mm).

How is discharge shown on a hydrograph?
It is shown as a line graph (in mm cubed per second).

What is the rising limb?
The rising flood water in the river (on line graph).

What is the peak flow?
The maximum discharge in the river (peak of the line graph).

What is the recession limb?
The falling flood water in the river (on line graph).

What is the basin lag time?
The time difference between the peak of the rain storm and the peak flow of the river (time between highest bar and peak flow).

What is base flow?
The normal discharge of the river.

What do you get if you combine the overland flow and through flow?
The storm flow.
