A hydrograph is a graph showing the rate of flow versus time past a specific point in a river, channel, or conduit carrying flow.

Peak Discharge
Time where a river reaches its highest flow

Peak Rainfall
The time where rainfall is at its highest.

Lag time
The difference in the time between the peak rainfall and peak discharge.

Rising Limb
Represents the increase in rainfall and peak discharge

Falling Limb
When the amount og discahrge decreases and therefore the river levels fall.

Flashy Hydrograph
A 'flashy' hydrograph has a short lag time, high peak discharge and steep rising and falling limbs.

Subdued Hydrograph
A 'subdued' hydrograph has a long lag time, low peak discharge and low rising and falling limbs
