Cost of Damage=$300 billion. Tens of thousands made homeless. 705 People were missing. Electricity, gas and water supplies lost.

Responses
US Government was criticised for their slow response. After a week they asked the EU for emergency help. The media arrived before aid did. The Coast Guard rescued over 33,000 stranded people.

Vulnerability
New Orleans has very low elevation on relation to sea level. Lack of nature defence against storm surges. E.g. wetlands and barrier islands.
