What is the SRY gene?
Only present on the Y chromosome of males
2 of 13
What happens when the testes are stimulated by SRY gene?
release Mullerian Inhibiting substance (MIS) (sertoli) and Testosterone (leydig). The Wolffian ducts (WD) persist Mϋllerian ducts regress (due to MIS).
3 of 13
What does dihyroyestosterone stimulate?
the growth of penis and scrotum. This hormone is also used to treat prostate cancer.
4 of 13
What cells are present in the testes that are part of sperm production?
The leydig cells and sertoli cells are present in the testes and in the seminiferous tubules.
5 of 13
What do the sertoli cells do?
nourish the developing sperm.
6 of 13
What is androgen insensitivity syndrome?
hormone production is normal but the testosterone receptors are ineffective.
7 of 13
What does testosterone do?
Initiate and maintain spermatogenesis, Inhibits GnRH by direct action on hypothalamus, Inhibits LH by direct action on ant pit, Induce differentiation and maintain male reproductive organs, Stimulate protein anabolism, plus others
8 of 13
What is artesia?
when the ovarian follicle does not develop
9 of 13
What are the protein placental hormones?
Human chorionic gonadotrophin, Human placental lactogen, Chorionic adrenocoticotrophin (cACTH), Parathyroid hormone related-protein, Chorionic somatomammotropin (Growth hormone), Prolactin, Hypothalamic hormones (GnRH), Relaxin, and others
10 of 13
What are the steroid placental hormones?
progesterone and oestrogen
11 of 13
What roles does oxytocin have?
