World Heritage Sites
UK Government is responsible for the sites and work with local authority and landowners. Management plans last for 5 years. Conservation takes priority.

Run by Nation Park Authority. Most of the land is privately owned. Management plans last for 5-10 years. Conservation takes priority.
2 of 7
National Nature Reserves
Public (school groups) are allowed access. Natural England may buy the land. Site Manager oversees the NNR with a 5 year plan.

Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty
Managed through planning controls. Responsibility of local authority, sometimes through conservation boards.

Environmentally Sensitive Areas
Farmers apply for grants and DEFRA ensure it is spent appropriately (manage hedges, replace field ponds etc.)

Wildlife Reserves
Some are owned by the Wildlife Trust. Recreation value is encouraged with visitor centres and information boards. Bird hides are installed.

Sites of Special Scientific Interest
Land is owned by private individuals and Natural England works with them. Careful management such as controlling water levels.
