What is the Hooke's Law?
When an elastic object is stretched, the increased length is called its extension.
1 of 8
What is the relationship between the extension and the force?
The extension of an elastic object is directly proportional to the force applied to it
2 of 8
What is the equation for Hooke's Law?
Force = Spring constant × Extensions (F = k × e)
3 of 8
What is F measured in?
The force in newtons, N
4 of 8
What is k measured in?
The 'spring constant' in newtons per metre, N/m
5 of 8
What is e measured in?
The extension in metres, m
6 of 8
Does the equation work?
This equation works as long as the elastic limit (the limit of proportionality) is not exceeded
7 of 8
What happens to the elastic limit when exceeded?
If a spring is stretched too much, it will not return to its original length when the load is removed.
