Central nervous system (CNS)
CNS allows humans to react to their surroundings and coordinate their behavior.
1 of 15
Reflex
Reflex is an automatic response which doesn't involve a conscious part of your brain.
2 of 15
Endocrine system
The endocrine system is composed of glandes which secretly release hormones into the blood. The effects may be slower than the nervous system but last longer. Moreover the pituitary gland controls all the other glands such as pancreas, thyroid, adre.
3 of 15
Water loss
If the body cells lose or gain toio much water through osmosis they are unable to function normally.
4 of 15
Where does the water go:
water leaves the body by exhalation. Also water, ions and urea are lost from the skin by sweat. Meanwhile excess water, ions and urea are removed by the kidneys in the urine.
5 of 15
Infertility
FSH and LH is given as a fertility drug so that the woman could become pregnant normally.
6 of 15
IVF
FSH and LH are given to the woman to stimulate several eggs. These are removed by the mother and are fertilized by sperm in the lab. Once they are embryos they are placed back inside the woman
7 of 15
Disadvantages of IVF
Stressfull, low success rates, and an increase in the number of births.
8 of 15
CNS process
Pain-stimulates pain receptor-sensory neurone-relay neurone by synapse-motor neurone by synapse-muscle contracts-move away from source of pain.
9 of 15
Reflex process
Receptor cells-stimulus-receptor-sensory neurone-rely neurone-motor neurone-effector-response
10 of 15
Kidneys
The kidneys produce urine by filtering the blood and selecting which useful substances to reabsorb. This is controlled by the hormone ADH from the pituitary gland and kidneys failure is treated by transplant or dialysis.
11 of 15
Body temperature
Your body temperature is controlled by thermoregulatory centre (TRC) in the brain. Temp receptors in the skin send impulses to the TRC. Hot- blood vessels dilate (vasodilation) and sweating. Cold- vasconstriction, shivering
12 of 15
Eyes
The eye can change shape of lens to focus on different objects. Near object-cililary muscles contract- suspensory ligaments which loosen-lens and gets thicker refracts more strongly distant objects are the opposite.
13 of 15
Sights
Short-Myopia. Long-Hyperopia.
14 of 15
Eye treatment
hard and soft cotact lenses, laser surgery to alter the shape of the cornea also replacement lenses.
