Water Shortages
Hard to clean things. No water for crops = Bankruptcy and starvation

No fuel for cooking or for fires

Sod (dirt) houses were difficult to keep clean, had lice, fleas etc.

Building Materials
Lack of wood for houses

Ploughing
The ground was packed with grass roots which made the ground hard. Ploughs would get broken.

No wood for fencing, buffalo would wander in and destroy the crops.

The crops brought over from around the world were not adapted to grow on the Plains.
