What is vasodilation?
Nerves stimulate arterioles that supply the capillaries to dilate-> more blood flows through the skin capillaries-> excess heat from the blood is lost by radiation
1 of 5
Increased sweating to help you cool down
Nerve impulses stimulate sweat glands in your skin to release sweat. The water in the sweat evaporates-> cooling effect on the skin
2 of 5
2 ways in which a thermoregulatory centre monitors your blood t
1) Contains receptors that are sensitive to the t of the blood flowing through it 2) Receives impulses from the skin, giving info about skin t
3 of 5
What is vasoconstriction?
The arterioles that supply skin capillaries constrict-> less blood flows into skin capillaries-> less heat is lost by radiation
4 of 5
Why would you lose your fingers if you were too cold?
Cells at extremities would die due to reduced blood supply- less oxygen+ glucose reaches them
