Homeostasis and Response 0.0 / 5 ? BiologyHomeostasisGCSEAQA Created by: GlendiaCreated on: 27-08-17 20:37 What is homeostasis? It is the regulation of the internal conditions of a cell/organism in response to internal and external factors. 1 of 10 What is the importance of homeostasis? It keeps conditions constant for enzyme action and cell functions. 2 of 10 What does homeostasis control? Blood glucose concentration, body temperatures, water and ion levels. 3 of 10 What do control systems involve? Responses using nerves, and chemical responses using hormones. 4 of 10 What are receptors? Cells which detect stimuli (changes in the environment). 5 of 10 What are coordination centres? Organs which recieve and process information from receptors. (E.g. brain, spinal cord and pancreas) 6 of 10 What are effectors? Organs which bring about responses that restore optimum levels. 7 of 10 What is the thermoregulatory centre? A part of the brain which monitors and controls body temperature. 8 of 10 What is vasodilation? It is a response taken by the thermoregulatory centre when the body temperature is too high. 9 of 10 What is vasoconstriction? A response taken by the thermoregulatory system when the body temperature is too low. 10 of 10
