When was the Disarmament Conference?
They first met in 1932 and the last conference was in 1934. Germany had been part of the LoN for many years and countries were thinking of disarming to the extent that Germany had been forced to.

What happened at the Disarmament Conference?
Germany left as the countries refused to disarm. Hitler then left the League of Nations.

What were the Six Steps to War?
Conscription and Rearmament, Rhinelands, Anchluss, Sudetenland, Czechoslovakia and Poland

What was Conscription and Re-armament
Hitler built up his armed forces and in 1935 introduced conscription which broke the ToV.

What happened with the Rhineland in 1936?
In 1936 Hitler sent troops to the Rhineland. This broke the ToV again but no one did anything to stop Hitler. It was also a test the men had orders to retreat if there was disturbance.

What happened with Austria in 1938?
Hitler once again broke the ToV by taking over Austria, to do this Hitler first raised the popularity of the Austrian Nazi Party.

What happened to the Sudetenland in 1938?
Hitler first encouraged the Sudenten Germans to ask for a union between them and Germany, this was followed by Chamberlain (British Priminister) adopting the policy of APPEASEMENT with Hitler.

What was the policy of Appeasment?
This was giving way to what someone wants hoping that they will then stop.

What happened to Czechoslovakia in 1939?
Hitler marched into Czechoslovakia and took over after being given the Sudetenland.

What was the USSR/NAZI soviet pact?
This was a pact between the USSR run by Stalin and Germany run by Hitler. Hitler wanted Poland and to stop from fighting a war on two fronts he made an agreement witrh Stalin to invade from each side and split the country in half.

What did Britain do when Hitler invaded Poland and why?
Britain promised Poland that if the were invaded they would protect them Hitler thought that the USSR/Narzi Soviet pact would stop them. Britain declared war on Germany.

What were the positives of Appeasement?
Wanted to avoid another World War. Britain had economic problems and couldn't afford another war. Many Brits felt that the ToV was too harsh on Germany anyway.

What were the negatives of Appeasement?
Hitler gained an advantage as the more time that was left the stronger he grew. It wasn't right to let Hitler take over countries. Hitler could have been stopped earlier.

Why was Germany responsible for the outbreak of WW2?
Hitler made huge problems in Europe and the final problem that caused war was the invasion of Poland

Why were Britain and France to blame for the outbreak of WW2?
They appeased Hitler and let him get away with things that they could have stopped for example the invasion of the Rhineland.

Why was the USSR to blame for WW2?
Stalin made a pact with Hitler that allowed him to invade Poland with their help.

Why did the League of Nations fail due to MEMBERSHIP?
There were 42 members of the League and the USA refused to join, Germany were also not allowed to join and Russia were not allowed to join as they were Communists.

Why did the League of the Nation fail due to ORGANISATION?
There were three main parts of the League The International Court of Justice, The Assembly and The Council. The Council consisted of five countries, Britain, France, Italy, Japan and eventually Germany. Two of the permenent members failed the League.

Why did the League of the Nation fail due to ORGANISATION?
The Court of Justice couldn't enforce any of the decisions. Finally the other members only met once a year and each country had a vote, they had to elect permenent members of the Council.

What was the Manchurian Crisis?
This was from 1931-33 and Japan invaded Manchuria in China. China appealed to the LoN for help and it took them a year to send someone to evaluate the incident. The league failed to punish Japan.

What was the Abyssinian Crisis?
This happened from 1935-36 and Italy invaded Abyssinia in Africa. They attacked with tanks, gas and large amounts of soldiers against old-style rifles. The Emperor asked the LoN for helped and all the did was try to appose economic sanctions.

What was the Hoare-Laval Pact?
This was between Britain and France were they agreed to give Italy part of Abyssinia if they left the rest alone. This failed and was then leaked to public.
