In 1967 President Jomo Kenyatta (of Kenya) gave all Kenyan Asians two years to become Kenyan citizans or leave - about 20,000 came to Britain. In 1972 the President of Uganda (Idi Amin) expelled 50,000 Asians who mostly came to Britain.

Why did people come from the West Indies?
In the Carribean there were no benefits, there were small wages (just 2 shillings a day on a sugar plantation), and for the modern education in Britain.

Between 1945 and 1960, 350,000 came, bringing the amount of Irish in Britain up to 900,000.

It was small scale in the 1940s and grew in the 1950s. By 1960 there were about 125,000 West Indians in Britain.
