Homesteaders Act; 1863 (American Farmers)
Homestead is a farm. This act gave people 160acres of free land, and if the land is farmed for 5 years, the owners get to keep it

Homesteaders; Tasks on arrival on the plains
-Find somewhere to live. -Gather food to eat and a water source to drink from. -Mark territory. -Farm some crops

Hunting the buffalo
-Stressful, risking their lives. -Men hunted&Women and children followed the tribe to eat it as soon as it was shot and killed, fresh. -Tribe was emotional when they came across wasted, skinned buffalo which cannot be eaten as it is rotten.

Leave the east and go west; Pull factors (Pulling them to the west)
-New towns with better jobs. -Cheap/free land available. -Fresh, new life in a different place. -Valuable gold+minerals to dig up for money, good trade routes and wanted to expand territory-escape the law. -Ex Slaves/Soldiers get a better life.

Leave the east and go west; Push factors (Push them out of the east)
-Poverty in the east. -Cities were becoming overcrowded so people needed to be spread arond from coast to coast. -There was religious persecution In the east. -Better life waiting in the west. -God guided them west, knew it was a better place

Buffalo
-Main food source for survival. -Skinned+Eaten. -Body parts (day to day resources). -Tounge (Rough) used as a hairbrush. -Bladder used as food bags. -Tail used as fly swap/whip/ornament. -Dung for fuel. -Heart, cut+left to give new life to the herd
