What happened on the day of Bloody Sunday 1905?
A peaceful protest led by Father Gapon. They came with a petition but the Cossacks opened fire on them (they thought the Tsar would have wanted them to do this). SPARK OF THE 1905 REVOLUTION

Who were the DUMA?
The DUMA were the Tsar's government. However, they were extremely corrupt. Eventually, they stopped supporting the Tsar which led to his abdication in March 1917.

Why was the Tsar forced to abdicate in 1917?
He lost control of the people and army. Things had gotten out of control and the people in charge of the railways refused to let him through. Also, he had lost control of the DUMA because he was irresponsible and incompetent.

Who was Rasputin and what role did he play?
Rasputin claimed to be a healer. He said he could cure the Tsar's son's haemophilia. When the Tsar went off to help with the war, he left the Tsarina in charge. Tsarina was extremely incompetent and she allowed Rasputin to help run things.

What is an autocrat?
A person with complete power. The Tsar was an autocrat.

Why were the peasants dissatisfied with life in Russia under the Tsar?
The Tsar only allowed them to have a little land and he began requisitioning their grain for his army. Many starved due to a lack of food and crops.

What was the October Manifesto?
Promises made by the Tsar (give land to peasants, stop requisitioning grain, allow the workers to have their factories etc, promises a democracy - DUMA) Tsar breaks this promise.

In what month did the sailors of the Putemkin mutiny?
June.

What happened in July 1905?
Peasant's riots became wide spread, land was seized and landowner's homes were burnt. These are known as the July Days.
