What was the three main problems in surgery?
Pain. Infection. Blood loss.

What was some of the issues related with pain?
-The paitent could die of the shock of the pain. -The paitent would thrash and shout and try to explain. -Complex operations were impossible. -People was scared of the pain of operations, so would not go to have the operations, it would get worse.

Who discovered chloroform?
James Simpson- He has a party with two of his friends and they were enhaling gases and came across chloroform. This knocked them out and James' wife found them. This was the start of the use of Chloroform.

What factors made Chloroform better than Ether?
It didn't have the drawbacks that Ether had, Chloroform was portable and John Snow made it so overdosing was not as common.

What made Chloroform socially acceptable?
Queen Victoria used it in the birth of her 8th child and it became more popular throughout the country. Also John snow made a regulator to make sure that the dosage was correct.
