Left.The Social Democratic Party was the main socialist political party in Germany. it was moderate in its politics and had supported the war effort. its leaders in 1918 were Friedrich Ebert and Phillip Scheidmann.

Karl Liebknecht
knect was a barrister before being elected to the Reichstag in 1912 as a member of SPD. He opposed the war in 1914 and was expelled from the Reichstag in 1916 because of his anti war views. He rejected the post-war democracy as propsed by Ebert

Rosa Luxemburg
worked with Liebknect to set up a revolutionary wing of the SPD as early as 1905. Imprisoned between 1915 and and 1918 for her anti war views.
